theartmarket is an independent artist focussed contemporary art space in the heart of Leeds City Centre.
Set-up in December 2006 by graduate artists Zoe Sawyer and Anna Tonks theartmarkets studio/ shop/ gallery hybrid provided an antithesis to the standard gallery model, a showcase for contemporary art in Leeds utilising a vacant market unit in the heart of Leeds commercial centre. With a DIY ethic, theartmarket has endeavoured to raise the visibility of visual arts in Leeds, promote and attract critical attention to the resident creative scene and draw artistic activity to Leeds.
This shop is a good supplier of indipendent artists books, zines multiples from local and national artists, collectives and designers.
The opening time seem to be very peculiar and can only seem to be guaranteed to be open during one of the many exhibitions or events. It is a very specialist shop appealing to a niche market. They do not have a online store.
